New Welcome Center
The sofas have arrived. The flat screen TV is crystal clear. The cookies are scrumptious! The new Welcome Center at Millersville University is now up and running. Located on the first floor of Lyle Hall, the entire area has received a make-over that includes interactive computer kiosks, a wall mural of campus, and a welcome desk staffed by the Admission office.
“The purpose of the renovations was to help illustrate our promise to prospective students and their families,” explains Dr. Douglas Zander, admissions.
The Welcome Center is complete with interactive computer kiosks that allow students to access information about the school, including student blogs. Zander states “This is just one piece of an enhanced visit program that includes a new emphasis on interactive communication such as instant messaging, blogs and specially tailored social networking sites for prospects – all of which are fast becoming standard tools in admissions recruitment.”
Not only is the new center keeping up with the ever-advancing world of technology, but it stimulates the aesthetic appeal as well. Student Nadine Kern has been working on a mural for the center since the beginning of the summer, with help from Brandon Martin, both students at Millersville. Using ink, acrylic paint, colored pencils and markers, the mural is based on the majority of the buildings on campus, including the new renovations of the Student Memorial Center. Kern agrees with many others as she replies that the new and improved center will “make the campus seem more inviting to prospective students.”
The make-over not only helps to catch the eye of incoming freshmen, but will attract graduate students as well. “We want all of our visitors, undergraduates and graduate students to remember their visit to Millersville University as the best experience of their college search,” says Zander.
