Coach Andy Young enters his second year at the helm of the Millersville men’s and women’s track and field/cross country teams.
During his first year, the teams saw some good successes and many reasons to feel good about the future. Sophomore Priscilla Jennings (Quarryville, PA / Solanco) stepped out on to the national scene with her 9th place showing in the 1500 meter at the NCAA DII nationals. Jennings also was the PSAC champion in the 1500 and 800 during outdoors as well as the 800 indoors.
Ten school records were set during the 2006-07 school year including 6 indoors (400 men, 4x400 men, 4x800 women, 4x200 women, 400 women and mile women) and 4 outdoors (4x400 women, hammer throw women, steeple chase women and 4x200 men). The women’s team had one of their best conference finishes indoors and their best outdoor finish since 2000.
The former head coach for men’s and women’s cross country and track and field at C.W. post campus of Long Island University, Young oversaw the revitalization of that program from 1997-2004. His women’s teams captured 3 conference titles in cross country (1997, 98, 03) 3 indoor titles (99, 03, 04) and 2 outdoor titles (03, 04). His men’s team won an indoor title in 2004.
In addition to his work at Long Island University, Young also worked with Locust Valley High School, Northport High School and West Islip High School, all in NY.
Young is the former treasurer for the Metropolitan Intercollegiate Track and Field Association and he was the NCAA North East Region representative for Cross Country. Young is a certified USA T&F Level I coach, a Certified USA T&F Level II Coach for endurance.
