TRACK & FIELD TEAMS COMPLETE DAY TWO AT PSAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

May 2 – After day two at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Track & Field Championships held on the campus of Indiana (Pa.) University, the Millersville men’s and women’s track and field teams will send several individual qualifiers to the finals of their respective events.

The men’s decathlon, women’s heptathlon and several field events were completed along with all preliminary races for the track events.

On the men’s side, Derrick Bass (so. York Suburban) jumped a distance of 22 feet, 8 inches on his way to a sixth-place finish in the long jump.  Teammate Stephen Kyle Boyd (jr. Dallastown Area) finished 13th in the event with a distance of 21 feet, 6.25 inches.

Bass just barely missed qualifying for the finals in the 200-meter dash as his time of 22.19 seconds was .06 seconds behind eighth-place qualifier James Vallery of Cheyney.

Adam Malloy (sr. Ephrata) qualified for the finals in the 800-meter run as his time of 1:54.72 seeded him in the top eight for the event.

Brendon Thomas (so. Governor Mifflin), Lucas Neiderer (so. Delone Catholic) and Matt Rogers (jr. Haverford)  finished 10th, 11th and 12th respectively, in the men’s decathalon. 

Neiderer grabbed the only single-event victory of the three as he placed first in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:26.42.  Neiderer also finished third in both the high jump and 400-meter dash events on his way to a score of 5,549 points.

Thomas recorded solid finishes in both the 100-meter dash (4th) and the long jump (3rd) as he recorded a total of 5,618 points.

Rogers’ day was highlighted by three top-five finishes that included fourth-place finishes in both the shot put and discus throw events and a fifth place finish in the pole vault.  Rogers scored a total of 5,465 points.

The men’s 4x100 meter relay team, made up of Kelvin Reyes (sr. Cedar Crest), Thomas, Boyd and Bass, will compete in the finals of the event tomorrow as their time of 43.09 placed them in the top eight.

Scott Pasternacki (so. Lampeter-Strasburg) delivered a ninth-place finish in the hammer throw event as he scored a total distance of 151 feet and seven inches.

On the women’s side, Lindsay Clark (jr. Kennard-Dale) threw a distance of 35 feet and a quarter inch in the women’s shot put to earn herself a 16th place finish in the event.

Priscilla Jennings (jr. Solanco) ran a time of 2:16.86 in the 800-meter run qualifying her for tomorrow’s finals in the event.

The championships will conclude tomorrow with the finals in each of the running events.
