E-Mail Coach Fleig

A five-time PSAC Eastern Division Coach of the Year, Mary Fleig has recorded 323 victories during her 18 years at Millersville and is the winningest head coach in Marauder women's basketball history.

She has led the Lady Marauders to six NCAA Tournament appearances (1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2008) and five PSAC East Division titles (1993, 2000, 2002, 2005, 2008). Fleig has a .649 winning percentage at MU and is the only coach in team history to eclipse 200 wins.

Fleig's teams have recorded at least 20 wins in seven of the past 10 seasons. During the illustrious run, the Marauders own a record of 206-88 (.701).

During the 2007-08 season, Fleig recorded her 300th victory as Millersville head coach with an 81-38 win over Alderson-Broaddus on Nov. 16. MU went on to record its first-ever perfect record in the PSAC East (12-0) and claim its second division crown in four years. The Marauders picked up a 15-point win over East Stroudsburg in the first round of the PSAC Tournament. Millersville also earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

In 2006-07, Fleig took her 17-11 Millersville squad to the PSAC tournament for a 17th consecutive year and advanced to the semifinals.

The 2004-05 campaign culminated in the Marauders' first PSAC title in 18 years -- and first in Fleig's storied tenure -- when the Black and Gold ended California's three-year championship reign with a thrilling 76-71 triumph at Pucillo Gymnasium.

The Marauders earned an automatic bid to the NCAA-II tournament and gave top East Region seed Anderson (S.C.) all it could handle before falling, 90-79. That loss ended a 15-game win streak by the 'Ville Marauders, who rebounded from a 6-8 start and won 11 of 12 PSAC Eastern Division. MU won the division title -- the sixth overall in team annals and fourth under Fleig's direction.

Fleig, who was voted 2001-02 District 2 Coach of the Year by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, recorded the program's most victorious campaign ever in 1999-00 (25-7). Millersville has posted win streaks of 15 (2004-05), 14 twice (1999-00 and 2007-08) and 13 (2001-02) during the Fleig era.

During her tenure as Millersville mentor, Fleig has instilled discipline with a keen emphasis on fundamentals and strong defense.

Her success at MU mirrors what she achieved at nearby Franklin & Marshall College where, during her seven years at the helm, she turned the Lady Diplomat program into a Division III powerhouse.

Fleig's F&M teams posted a 122-60 record, captured three consecutive Middle Atlantic Conference Southern Division championships and posted a 38-2 division record from 1987 to 1990.

Her last four F&M squads amassed records of 20-5, 25-4, 24-5 and 25-5 and a phenomenal .832 winning percentage. Her 1987-88 squad won 19 consecutive games, captured NCAA-III Middle Atlantic Regional title honors and advanced to the national quarterfinal round. She also guided the Lady Diplomats to three straight NCAA-III tournament appearances.

A native of Harrisburg, Fleig was a three-sport athlete at Central Dauphin High School. She went on to compete for four seasons each in basketball and field hockey at Lock Haven University.

Fleig earned a bachelor of science degree in health and physical education from Lock Haven in 1979. After she served three years as a teacher and coach at Delone Catholic High School, she moved on to the collegiate level as a graduate assistant coach at East Stroudsburg University (1982-83), where she earned advanced degree credits.
A member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Assn., Fleig serves on the WBCA/Division II All-American Committee.
