Research Interest(s):
Current
research projects include 1) topics in biochemical and
molecular endocrinology; 2) biotic exploration in Brazil
and East Africa; and 3) medicinal chemistry of antimalarial
drugs. This research is funded by grants from various
federal and international agencies such as the National
Institutes of Health (NIH), the World Health Organization
(WHO), the Contraception Research and Development Program
(CONRAD), and the International Organization of Chemical
Sciences in Development (IOCD). Students that are in
the University Honors Program or who are interested
in Biology Department Honors projects are encouraged
to apply for Research Fellowships funded through my
research grants. Fellowships include a stipend and the
work is often published in research journals with the
students as co-authors. Students are involved in every
step of the research projects from how to write a grant
to publishing and presenting the results. In addition,
students have been involved in organization of international
conferences, including travel to the conferences.
