Please note, FAFSA applications received after May 1, 2008
WILL N
OT be considered for the PA State Grant through PHEAA, but WILL be considered for Federal Aid.

Our FAFSA Federal School Code is: 003325

IMPORTANT TIPS REGARDING THE FAFSA

***Change from previous years***

The FAFSA is no longer available in paper form from HS Guidance or Financial Aid Offices.
It must be completed online through FAFSA on the Web.

If you prefer the paper form, you may call 1-800-4FED-AID
(1-800-433-3243) and request a paper form be mailed to you or
you may Download the 2008-2009 FAFSA (PDF File - Requires Adobe Acrobat Reader)

  • Even if the student has not been accepted by the schools he/she has applied to and/or has not made a final decision of where to attend, we recommend you fill out the FAFSA anyway and include all schools (up to 10 on the FAFSA on the Web) the student is considering. In order to list the schools, you may need their Federal School Code. If you are unsure of this code, please refer to the Federal School Code Search webpage.
  • If you are filling out the FAFSA on the Web, we recommend you use the FAFSA on the Web Worksheet (this form requires Adobe Acrobat Reader to download) or you can pick one up in the Office of Financial Aid. This form is used to help complete the FAFSA online. Do NOT mail to the processor.

In order to "sign" the online application, there are two options: fill out the application, print out and sign the signature page, and mail to the address provided, OR sign it electronically using your PIN.

It is the recommendation of the Millersville Univeristy Office of Financial Aid that the student and at least one parent have a PIN number. If you do not have one, or have misplaced yours, request it through the PIN website. The PIN number you receive is good for subsequent years of fililng the FAFSA, so be sure to keep it in a safe place. The PIN will be available in real-time (immediately) as of 01/02/08 and you can choose your own PIN.

Go to the PIN website and select "Activate My PIN."

The online form require signatures of the student and the parent (if the student is considered dependent). The following eight questions are asked on the FAFSA to determine the student's status as a dependent (requiring parental information) or an independent student. If the student can answer "yes" to at least one question, he/she is considered independent.

1.
Were you born before January 1, 1985?
2.
At the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year, will you be working on a master's or doctorate program?

7.

Delays in processing your FAFSA by the Department of Education will occur if you do not respond to all of the questions or obtain the signatures required on the FAFSA (electronic or paper). In order for the Office of Financial Aid to process your financial aid award accuartely and efficiently, there are several questions on the FAFSA that will require your attention. Those questions are listed below, along with advice for their responses:

Your email address
  If you provide an email address, the processor will correspond with you electronically. Leave blank to receive information through the U.S. Postal Service.
Degree you are working on during 2007-2008
  1=1st Bachelor's Degree
2=2nd Bachelor's Degree
4=Associate Degree
6=Teaching Certificate
8=Master's Degree
Grade level
  0 or 1 = 1st year (0 - 29.9 credits earned)

What types of aid interest you?

Please note, on prior FAFSAs, there were two YES/NO questions: "In addtion to grants, are you interested in student loans?" & "In addition to grants, are you interested in work-study?"
This question replaces both of those questions, so it is crucial you answer it appropriately.

1 = work-study (earned through working)
2 = student loans
3 = both work-study and student loans
4 = neither
5 = don't know

If you answer either 2 or 3, the Office of Financial Aid will automatically process a loan for you. When you receive your award information, you will have the option to accept or cancel all or a portion of the loan.

If you answer 1, 4, or 5 and afterwards decide you do want a student loan, you will need to contact our office.

Answering 1 or 3, does not require to you to obtain a job while you are in school, it is only used to award you money in federal work study if you are eligible. You must earn this money through a paycheck every 2 weeks, like a regular job - it is not deducted from your university bill.

Were you convicted of a drug offense while receiving federal student aid?
  Do NOT leave this item blank. Failure to respond = NO Federal Student Aid (including loans).
Student income tax for 2007 / Parents' income tax for 2007
  This is the amount of taxes paid, not withheld. Be sure to use the correct line from your tax forms: (1040 - line 57, 1040A - line 35, 1040EZ - line 11)
