School of Education

Wecome from the Dean

Dr. Jean S. BrayEducation programs are the heart and the heritage of Millersville University. The small institute founded in 1855, the first to prepare Pennsylvania’s teachers, has become Millersville University, and the School of Education houses today’s dynamic programs.

Today the School of Education offers multiple programs in five departments not only in teacher preparation and in the preparation of other school personnel, but in other critical needs disciplines as well. Three departments are devoted primarily to the preparation of teachers, and we are proud that one in every three students on campus is enrolled in a teacher preparation program. Their studies focus on young student learning in the classroom as the most important element of our future. We concentrate on building learning communities of inquiry and action demonstrating best practice and focusing on students.

Our school also offers an exemplary Department of Psychology that provides undergraduate and graduate programs and the opportunity for student to conduct research working side-by-side with dedicated faculty. The Department of Industry and Technology prepares students for business and industry as well as for teaching. This department works collaboratively with our community encouraging productive internships and cooperative work assignments that benefit our students. Finally, the Department of Wellness and Sport Sciences provides courses for every student who attends Millersville University. It is also widely known for its coaching minor and excellent graduate sports management program, the only one of its kind in central Pennsylvania.

The School of Education also proudly serves as the home for the largest Migrant Education Program in the state of Pennsylvania. This program provides multiple support programs for migrant students and their families in four surrounding counties. We value our collaborative efforts with the Migrant Education Program as we all work to meet the needs of our communities of learners.

While the departments in the school are different, our purpose and focus are the same. We concentrate on students and their connections and future contributions to the community. We offer classes that prepare students for teaching, for the business world and often times, for graduate studies. Teaching and learning together is what the School of Education is all about!
