Chinese Campus Program

This 4-week program provides a wonderful opportunity for American faculty to teach a course for up to 16 hours per week in Chinese universities that are part of the CHEPD 1+2+1 consortium with Millersville University. The purpose of this visiting instructor program is to have U.S. faculty experience authentic Chinese culture and society, to promote greater exchange, and broaden the exposure of Chinese students to international teaching approaces in their academic discipline and in English.

Applicant Requirements

  • Full-time lecturer or teacher in a US university: full-time professors with terminal degrees are strongly preferred, but those with master's degrees and/or part-time faculty members with extensive experience may also apply; or experts specialized in certain areas with strong interests in education. 
  • Delivering on academic courses (3-4 credits standard) or serial lectures on certain topics in 4 weeks of teaching at a Chinese host university, teaching 12-16 hours per week on a schedule provided by the host institute.
  • Willing to provide 1-2 public seminars on American culture, teaching methods, or academic discipline development (to be determined by the host institute).

Program Dates

The courses will be taught in compressed format over a 4-week session in one of the time frames noted below. Participants will be responsible for courses planning and delivery and engagement with faculty/staff/students at the host institute. The dates below are travel-inclusive. Other dates proposed will also be taken into consideration. 

Summer Term of 2018:

  • Section A: May 13- June 12, 2018
  • Section B: May 27 - June 26, 2018

Fall Term of 2018:

  • Section A: October 21 - November 20, 2018
  • Section B: November 24 - December 23, 2018

Program Support

Millersville University will provide the following support for this program:

  • Pre-application advising about program.
  • Overview AASCU/CCIEE/Millersville University relationship. 
  • Pre-Departure orientation
    • Overview of Chinese higher edcuation
    • Chinese culture 
    • Basics of marketing Millersville (depending on host institution and discipline)  

China Center for International Education Exchange (CCIEE) will provide the following support for this program:

  • Initial receipt of applications from campus representatives.
  • Coordination of review of applications with over 110 Chinese universities in the CHEPD Consortium. 
  • Indentification and communication about placement in a timely manner.
  • Purchase of the international round-trip air trickets for those invited to participate.
  • Orientation in Beijing after arrival to China. Includes airport pickup, overnight accommodation, sightseeing and consulation provided before participants fo to their host institute. 
  • Transportation from beijing to the host university and back to Beijing. 
  • A stipend of 3,000RMB for participation provided during orientation. 

The host institute will privide the following supports as part of this program:

  • Pickup from local airport on arrival and transportation to local airport at the conclusion of the program.
  • Accommodation at the host university (not including meals). 
  • Pocket money for 4 weeks: 4,000RMB to cover all other costs (food, laundry, incidentals, etc.)
  • Accesss to an office (may be shared) during the teaching period at the host institution. 
  • A faculty peer who will help coordinate teaching, communicating about materials needed for the courses, debriefing, grading and other issues with teh host institute.
