About the Exhibition

About the Artists

Emily Bayless (b. 1988) received her Masters in Fine Art from the University of Colorado Boulder (CO). With fiber, clay, and paint, Emily Bayless makes sculptural work that utilizes the language of celebration to pay homage to dissatisfaction. The banner and ordinary objects are symbols wielded sarcastically to signify a pejorative attitude concerning matters of domestic partnership. Bayless’ work has been shown widely across the United States, including the State Museum of Pennsylvania and the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art. She lives and works in Lancaster, PA. www.emilybaylessstudio.com

Michael Benevenia was born and raised in Northern New Jersey. He completed his BFA, magna cum laude, in visual arts and art history at Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts. Shortly after Rutgers he enrolled in HoHokus School of Trades and Technical Services in Paterson, NJ to learn various structural plate welding processes. Michael then began working for the Sculpture Foundation’s Johnson Atelier, as a sculpture fabrication technician, soon becoming supervisor of the monumental fabrication department, planning and leading sculpture installations nationally. Michael moved to Baltimore, Maryland to earn his MFA in sculpture at Maryland Institute College of Art’s Rinehart School of Sculpture. He currently lives and works out of Lancaster, PA, where he is the technician for the art department of Millersville University, providing technical support to the sculpture, ceramics, printmaking and photography studios and students.  www.mbenevenia.com
