The continental shelf in the northeastern US has been subject to a number of important changes in recent years. There has been a pronounced warming over the past decade, and exceptional warming occurred in the first six months of 2012. Recent warming trends will be discussed along with recent observations from the Ocean Observatories Initiative Pioneer Array south of New England that suggest major changes in exchange processes between the continental shelf and deep ocean.
