Fact Sheet on BSN Program

The Department of Nursing at Millersville University offers an ACEN-accredited RN to BSN program designed exclusively for Registered Nurses who have completed an accredited Associate Degree or Diploma RN program and wish to continue their education to earn the BSN. All course content and time offerings of courses are designed to meet the needs of non-traditional adult learners.  The BSN undergraduate program has "rolling admissions" (on-going) and no application deadline.

The Degree Program

120 semester hours (s.h.) are required for the degree. These are distributed as follows:

  • 51 s.h. General Education Core
  • 30 s.h. Lower Division nursing credits [see below]
  • 31 s.h. Upper Division nursing credits
  • 17 s.h. Departmentally required related courses (some of these credits may apply to the General Education core)

The RN student receives 30 credits for Nursing course-work completed in their diploma or associate degree program on admission to Millersville University's BSN program.

Any non-traditional student may demonstrate college-level knowledge in Anatomy and Physiology as well as Microbiology through successful completion of the Excelsior College Examinations. Contact Information: 1-888-ECEXAMS [1-888-723-9267]. Web site:

Courses are now being offered as the following:

  • Includes three NEW innovative nursing courses, two 100% on-line courses, and all other remaining courses blended (on-line and face-to-face)
  • Captstone course involves student designed clinical
  • Changes will provide flexibility to student schedules
  • Innovative course scheduling for the working RN

Admission to the University

Applicants must satisfy all admissions requirements as outlined on the application instructions; however, new nursing graduates may be accepted pending the results of the NCLEX examination. Application can be completed online at Applicants satisfying all requirements for the nursing major may be admitted directly into the nursing program. Applicants who must satisfy department requirements for admission may be admitted to the University as continuing education students and begin course work to fulfill University requirements for a degree. Millersville University accepts students on a rolling admission basis. (A response can be expected with four weeks from the time of submission of a completed application).

Applicants should have official copies of pre-professional nursing school, high school, and college (if any) transcripts sent to the Millersville University Admissions Office.

Course Requirements and Descriptions

The Department of Nursing of Millersville University offers an ACEN-accredited upper division program in nursing leading to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) degree.  This program is designed for registered nurses who are graduates of diploma or associate degree nursing programs. Nursing courses may only be taken after attaining junior level status (60-90) credits.  NURS 320, Conceptual Basis of Professional Nursing Practice, is the introductory course for the nursing major and should be taken first.
