After graduating from Millersville, it was my goal to combine my passion for music with my abilities in science and mathematics into a fulfilling career in acoustics.  I will share with you the academic steps I took that led me to Bose Corporation and some of my professional and personal experiences as a Bose engineer.  You will gain an understanding of the wide spectrum of experiences one can have on the path to an engineering career.

4.  "Nuclear" Does Not Have to be a Scary Word..............................................SMC

I will present an overview of the career of nuclear medicine technology. It will include a general description of the field and the educational requirements (both at a high school and college level) needed to prepare for a job as a nuclear medicine technologist. We will also look at actual case studies to gain a better understanding of the role of a nuclear medicine technologist.

I will discuss different branches of neuroscience including my area of interest; behavorial neuroscience. The presentation will include data about neuroscience and the training it takes to get into the field.

I will discuss how my love of weather made me pursue a degree in meteorology, but also how my interest in government and politics made me see other possibilities for that degree. I will discuss my internship in Colorado, time in graduate school at Colorado State University, and how my thesis led to my current job. It will show how you might have initial interests that grow and evolve into areas you never expected and the importance of references and contacts.

9.   Hey, This Geophysics Stuff Really Works! (How We Can See Underground or Underwater Without Digging)............SMC

Geophysics is the science of detecting targets underground or underwater (or behind walls) without digging or drilling - it is the earth science equivalent of medical radiology. We use geophysics to look for all sorts of things like utilities, containment plumes, dead bodies, shipwrecks, sinkholes, buried treasure, underground storage tanks or drums, and bedrock depths (to name a few) for engineers, environmental consultants, architects, homeowners, government and industry before they begin to drill or dig into the earth.

11. Crayons and Computers: Awesome Pictures of Mathematics..............................SMC

It is easy to see, just by looking, that certain kinds of art are beautiful. But how can we "see" beautiful math just by looking? It would help if we could first understand the math that lies within various kinds of visual art. Dr. Crannell will lead you on an artistic mathematical tour through Spanish wall decorations (symmetry and tessellations), modern movie backdrops (fractal geometry), and especially Renaissance perspective painting (similar triangles).

12.  To Catch a Fake: Computer Science and Forensics.............................................SMC

You will learn how computer forensics experts catch criminals (e.g. by tracking emails, and also how they spot doctored images that may be used as evidence in court). During the presentation, you will conduct a hands-on demonstration to try to spot a fake image. I will also interweave into the conversation the balancing act of professor and working mom.
