Student Profiles - Gabrielle Spica
Gabrielle Spica, a junior from Lancaster, Pa. is a Speech Communications major with a concentration in Public Relations and a minor in Entrepreneurship at Millersville University. She expects to graduate in May 2018.
What made you choose Speech Communication as your major?
I was originally just Speech Communications, but realized I would learn more utilizable skills in PR. I want to one day work in nonprofit and I wanted to fine-tune my writing skills, as well as have an understanding of media law.
What made you decide to come to Millersville?
After high school, I traveled to Guatemala, where I lived for six months. I had deferred admission to Gettysburg College, but when I came home, I realized I wanted to rethink how I went about attending school. I also wanted to stay close to my family, who I appreciated so much more after I came home. So, I went to community college at HACC for two years and then decided to transfer to Millersville last semester, especially since I knew they had Communications. It was awesome to find out during the transferring process that they had the Entrepreneurship program.
What do you plan on doing after you graduate?
I'd like to work in nonprofit PR, or continue a career path with Saxbys, but eventually own my own cafe here in Lancaster.
What do you like to do in you free time?
I love trying new things and adventuring to new places. I love life and being outside, singing and playing piano/guitar, reading and dancing! (I'm not even a trained dancer but it makes me really happy, as a side note).
Gabrielle will also be the first student Café Executive Officer at Saxbys when it opens on campus. She had a key role in hiring and developing the café’s 25-person team. She joined the Saxbys team in 2016 and is receiving a full semester’s worth of academic credit as well as a stipend for running the cafe.
