What is Fall New Student Orientation?

Fall New Student Orientation is a Five Day Program to get new students acclimated to the Millersville University Campus. Some things to look forward to at Orientation include getting to know the campus, meeting faculty, administration and staff, and making those lifelong friends you always hear about.

Do I have to attend the Fall Orientation Program?

Asking this question is similar to asking the question should I go to class. Orientation is a prime time to learn about all the different activities and experiences that you will have as a Millersville University student. For that reason Orientation is Mandatory, and we cannot wait to see you! If you have specific questions please call us at 717-871-5553.

Do Graduate Students attend Orientation?

Graduate students will have a separate Orientation and should contact the Office of Graduate Studies at 717-872-3099 for more information. Here is the link to their website as well: http://www.millersville.edu/graduate/currentstudents/orientation.php.

Do Family Members have to attend?

Parents are invited to attend a Parent & Family Orientation session.  The dates for Parent & Family Orientation are June 29th, July 12th and July 20th 2013 (Program and registration information will be mailed out later in the spring).  This program is designed specifically to meet the needs of our parent population and provides detailed information about Millersville University. On August 21st, Parents and family members are invited to attend The University Welcome.

What do I do if I have decided to change majors?

During Orientation you can not change your major. Once you are given an academic advisor you should work with him or her to ensure a smooth transition from one major to another. During Orientation there will be times to meet with various departments on campus. Those meetings provide a good opportunity to see if a major is the right one for you.

When will I get my Millersville University I.D.?

It is advised that you try to get your MU I.D. before coming to campus on August 21st to begin Orientation, as you will need it to get into your residence hall and to eat in the dining halls.  The Campus I.D. Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00am-4:00pm (closed university holidays, including Memorial Day and July 4th).  Students need to bring (or know) their M# and a valid form of I.D. (drivers license, passport, etc.).

When do I need to be at Millersville?

Check-in for Orientation will occur on Wednesday, August 21st.  For students living in the residence halls, check-in will coincide with move times at your residence hall, but you must check –in separately for Orientation (Location TBD). All new students will be moving in this day so allow yourself ample time to set up your room.

Will there be a tour of the Campus?

What will the parking situation be on Move in Day?

Due to the large influx of student on that day, parking can become quite hectic. We ask that all non-essential moving cars remain clear of the Residence Hall area. There will be no tickets issued as long as you are legally parked and not blocking sidewalks or parked on the grass. We just ask that everyone tries to work together and be safe while moving into your new home.

Will there be programming for younger siblings?

Unfortunately we do not have programming for younger siblings. We realize their importance in a family as well as the moving process, however please keep in mind that this will be a very busy day and will be tiring for them. We would encourage them to visit later in the semester during Family Day!
