Fresh Faces, Fresh Spaces: What Freshmen Have to Look Forward to

The end of summer is approaching, days are beginning to get shorter, Hawaiian shirts are slowly becoming unfashionable and soon enough the first day of the fall semester will come. In the meantime, incoming freshmen are shopping for new bed comforters, new clothing and basically just new everything. But freshmen are not the only ones getting new materials for school. Millersville is in the process of a renovation and expansion project that is bringing plenty of new features to campus.

The Student Memorial Center (SMC) and Gordinier Hall, which houses the Upper Deck dining hall, renovations will be affecting the freshmen more than any other projects around campus. Why you may ask? Well, as a freshman, are you interested in physical fitness or hanging out in cafés? Then you may want to pay attention.

The soon-to-be newly re-done fitness center boasts an impressive lineup of improvements. Open recreations areas, new fitness equipment and an indoor track on the second-floor balcony are only a few of the improvements waiting to greet you when the fitness center opens its doors. But if that does not satisfy your athletic cravings, let us not forget the flat-screen televisions with headphone jacks. While you are getting your cardio workout for the day, you can watch one of five different channels. There will also be a new eatery on campus in Gordinier Hall, The Anchor, which combines the look and feel of a quaint café and the convenience of a quick-stop mini mart, where students can hang out, use free Wi-Fi service and try every flavor slushie until their stomach is content.

Both the fitness center and The Anchor are scheduled to be finished by the fall 2010 semester.
