Orientation: The First Steps of Your College Career

All universities have an orientation. Some are a few hours, for one day, on a random Tuesday in July where you meet only a small group of fellow students, most of whom you will forget by the time you drive back home. Millersville, on the other hand, has a five-day program beginning Wednesday, August 25, the week before classes start.

"I remember how nervous I was on the first day of orientation," said Adam Hoy, a senior majoring in communications. "But you have to remember there are other freshmen that feel the exact same way. I went to my orientation group activities and on the second day I met the girl that became my best friend and still is, even three years later. If you don't open your mind to orientation and give it a chance, then you can't expect to get anything back from it. Trust me; it's worth every minute."

Orientation is the best way to help students adjust to college life. The orientation programs encourage students to get involved, learn about college life, meet new people and become valued members of the Millersville University community.

The days will be filled with many activities for students to get involved and explore. There will be discussions about the common reading, information fairs, a tour of Lancaster City, a Casino Night on Thursday, movie on the quad Friday night, Mike Super, a magician/illusionist on Saturday night as well as midnight breakfast and a quad party Sunday afternoon.
