Transferring From a Community College

Millersville welcomes applicants from community colleges and other regionally accredited 2 year institutions.

Beginning at a 2 year institution is a common way to save money while pursuing your education. Nationally 60% of students begin their education at one institution and complete their bachelor’s degree at another. Forty four percent (44%) of currently enrolled college students are enrolled at community colleges. Most General Education Course Requirements can be completed at any regionally accredited institution. Over 100 majors and concentrations within majors can be completed at Millersville. Click here for a complete list of majors available at Millersville University.

Transfer Credits Accepted at Millersville University

Credits in which students have earned a grade of “C” or higher are typically accepted as long as MU offers an equivalent course. Elective credits may be awarded if an exact equivalent does not exist. Click here for a course equivalency lists. A special agreement between the 13 PA Community Colleges and the 14 PASSHE institutions, allows grades of “D” to be accepted, excluding those earned in English Composition and Public Speaking. Completion of an Associate Degree is not required for admissions. However, many students will chose to complete an AA or AS degree prior to enrolling at MU.

Millersville University is accredited by Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) and will accept credits from other regionally accredited institutions (see list on left).
From DANTES and USAFI programs
International transfer students must arrange for an evaluation from World Education Services (WES) or American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO)

Dual Admissions Programs with Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) and Reading Area Community College (RACC)

The Dual Admission Programs are designed for students who plan to complete an Associate Degree prior to enrolling at Millersville. They are primarily advisement programs that provide ongoing credit evaluations that show how community college credits fit towards a Millersville degree. The program is designed exclusively for students who intend to complete an Associate Degree at one of the participating institutions prior to beginning at Millersville. It is recommended that application be done prior to the completion of 45 college credits. Applications are available from the transfer centers at the 2-year institutions.

Non Pennsylvania Resident Tuition Discount

Academically strong transfer applicants who are non-residents of Pennsylvania may be eligible for a tuition discount of approximately $3,000. The discount is granted to non Pennsylvania residents who have achieved a 3.5 or higher GPA at a regionally accredited institution, and have earned at least 12 transferable college level credits when they begin their enrollment at MU. A combined GPA will be calculated for students who have attended multiple post secondary institutions. The discount cannot be applied until the final transfer college transcript is received and processed. Students will be notified of the discount within 5 weeks of receipt of the final transcript. This is a discount, not a scholarship. The amount would be deducted from the tuition bill. Additional details are included with eligibility letters.

Accepting the Offer of Admission

Receipt of the confirmation fee (click here for instructions) leads to the “next steps” of the application process.

Students will then have access or be provided with:

  • a degree audit showing where previous credits fit towards the Millersville degree
  • contact information of an academic advisor within their (major) department
  • invitation to orientation and other special events for incoming transfer students

Advisement and Registration

  • All incoming students who have confirmed their intent to enroll at Millersville are strongly encouraged to contact an academic advisor by phone, email or face to face meeting. Placement Tests

Placement testing will vary for each incoming transfer student depending on academic background and major.

  • Math: Transfer students who have received credit for a college-level math course should contact the math placement coordinator to see if they must take this test. Email dschultz@millersville.edu, or call 717-871-7668. Click here for additional details.
  • Chemistry: The Chemistry Department does not administer a formal chemistry placement test. Students with math placement test results of 101 or better have the option of registering for CHEM 110 or CHEM 111. Click here for additional details.
