Sykes Gallery, located off the main lobby of Breidenstine Hall, exhibits high quality, fine art work produced by professional artists. This gallery serves not only as the primary instructional resource for students studying the arts, but as a cultural resource center for the Millersville community and surrounding regions. Gallery attendance averages 2,000 visits per academic year.
Past artists exhibiting at Sykes Gallery include Mary Miss, Miwako Kato, Sandy Skoglund, Georges LeChevallier, Hester Stinnett, Conrad Nelson, Laurie Sloan, Wendy Collin Sorin, Bill Fick, Kristy Krivitsky, the PA Arts Council Rostered Artists, and Millersville University students and faculty among others.
Hours: Monday - Friday (8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.)
Admission to the exhibits are free and open to the public.
Daily campus parking permits are required before 4:00 p.m. and available from the campus Police station in Lebanon House on 237 N. George Street; Millersville PA 17551. They are open from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and can be reached at 717.872.3433.

Amze Emmons is a Philadelphia-based, multi-disciplinary artist with a background in drawing and printmaking. His images evoke a sense of magical/minimal realism inspired by visual cultural material, including, comic books, vintage cartoons, information graphics, news footage, consumer packaging, instruction manuals and vernacular architecture.
He has held solo exhibitions at Park Life, San Francisco; Kesting Ray, New York; Space 1026, Philadelphia; OHT Gallery, Boston; and Works on Paper Gallery, Philadelphia. His work has been exhibited in group exhibitions including EFA Project Space and the International Print Center, New York; the Delaware Center for Contemporary Art, Wilmington; the Des Moines Art Center, Des Moines; Wendy Cooper Gallery, Chicago; and The Print Center, Philadelphia. Emmons has received numerous awards including a Fellowship in the Arts from the Independence Foundation; an Individual Creative Artist Fellowship from the Pennsylvania Arts Council; and a Fellowship at the MacDowell Colony. His work has received critical attention in New American Paintings, as well as many other print and online publications. He is currently an Associate Professor at Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia. Emmons is also a co-founder and co-contributing editor of the popular art blog, Printeresting.org.

Norman Ed is an accomplished contemporary sculptor and high school art teacher in Johnstown PA. This exhibition brings his new works and some of his most accomplished students’ work to MU Art & Design. Ed’s work has been shown widely throughout Pennsylvania. His mediums span from glass to steel, from small found objects to large scale wood constructions.

Joni Maya Oye-Benintende creates ceramic art that is “centered around the conscious, unconscious and cultural forces which shape thought and personality.” Philadelphia born and raised, Benintende knew she always wanted to be an artist. She received her BFA at Washington University and her MFA from Tama Fine Art University in Tokyo, Japan.

The Emerging Artists in Residence Exhibition is an Annual exhibit of M.U. Art & Design artists in residence. The 2015 exhibit will feature works representing 4-6 artists working from September until the opening developing work in the MU Art & Design facilities. Opening night the artists give a series of brief slide presentations about their work. This event is the culmination of the artists’ work throughout the year and always popular with the audience.
