Additional Information

At Millersville University I am being provided with the knowledge and experience I’ll need to make groundbreaking contributions to the field of science and medicine when I graduate.  I chose Millersville because of its reputation of providing undergraduates with opportunities to participate in meaningful research and gain extensive laboratory experience. I am currently working with Dr. Hepfer on a project that involves comparing gene expression in different muscle groups of the long fin, inshore squid species, Dorytheuthis pealeii, to determine the reason for differences in contraction and strength.  This experience has advanced my comprehension of genetics and taught me many techniques currently used in the scientific community.  This research and everything I’m learning in my classes will definitely prepare me well for graduate school.   I am currently involved in the Honors College, Biology Club and The Navigators, a Christian group on campus.  As an athlete on the Millersville Track and Field Team for the past two years, I competed as a pole-vaulter.  Millersville has also provided me with remarkable job-related experiences such as my internship at Lincoln Highway Veterinary Clinic that was coordinated by Dr. Haines.  After graduation, I hope to attend the University of Pennsylvania’s double doctorate program in veterinary medicine and biomedical graduate studies (VMD-PhD).
