Carter G. Woodson Lecture: Kirk Franklin - "Personal Accountability: Challenging the African American Community"

Description: Kirk Franklin will present this year's Carter G. Woodson Lecture on November 27 at 7:30 p.m. His lecture, entitled "Personal Accountability: Challenging the African American Community," will be followed by renditions by Millersville University's Gospel Choir. This event will be held at Millersville's main campus in the Winter Visual and Performing Arts Center. The Clair Performance Hall is now sold out, Franklin's lecture will be simulcast in Biemesderfer Concert Hall.

Speaker Biography: Franklin's enterprises include a full-service youth outreach initiative, an advertising agency and a production company. In a joint venture with Zomba Label Group, Franklin established his own Fo Yo Soul Entertainment Company. Franklin's remarkable career has been instrumental in changing the landscape of contemporary Gospel music. He has won five Grammy's, 34 Stellar Awards and 12 Dove Awards. He has also won two BET Music Awards, four NAACP Awards, and a Soul Train Award. With 12 million albums sold and more than 20 #1 singles on Gospel radio, Franklin has been blessed with commercial success. He is also a hero and example to anyone who thinks his or her life is beyond redemption. To hear his testimony is to hear from a man who's risen from the bleakest streets to the highest heights. Deeper still, he understands that the literal fight of his life is a battle fought daily.

Ticket Information: This event is free and open to the public; however, tickets are required. **WE ARE NOW TAKING RESERVATIONS FOR THE SIMULCAST TO BE HELD IN BIEMSEDERFER CONCERT HALL. Tickets may be reserved online, at MUTicketsOnline.com, at the Student Memorial Center Ticket Office (Room 103), by calling the Ticket Office at 717-872-3811 or at the Ware Center Box Office (42 N. Prince St., Lancaster). Ticket Offices are open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. The Winter Center Box Office will be open one hour prior to showtime.
