Inclusive Post Secondary Education

Welcome to Integrated Studies (formerly Career & Life Studies) where individuals with an intellectual disability can obtain a high-quality, individualized postsecondary education that will lead to social and professional networks, careers and a bright future. Millersville University is particularly suited for this program as a state university focused on serving the public. This inclusive initiative is intended to strengthen our academic community and the broader community as well. Integrated Studies provides an opportunity for students to enrich and enhance their personal and academic development in a fully inclusive environment. Prospective Integrated Studies students will find meaningful experiences that will enhance their personal growth socially, academically and vocationally.

History

A significant gap was discovered in the lack of available post-secondary education and support options for a young adult with an intellectual disability who are concluding their secondary education career. A group of individuals committed its time to the discovery of promising practices in post-secondary education for a young adult with an intellectual disability. Millersville University of Pennsylvania, thanks to a grant from the Dreams Realized Through Educational Aspiration Model (D.R.E.A.M.) Partnership, a nonprofit organization located in Central Pennsylvania established Integrated Studies (formerly Career & Life Studies) at Millersville University. The grant to Millersville University funded the full development of a new “Integrated Studies" program. The pilot program began in the fall of 2014 with one student. In the Fall of 2015 eight students were admitted and today Integrated Studies engages 15-25 students in a fully inclusive college experience.
