Shauna Stoy is entering her first year in the MSEM program. Shauna graduated in May 2013 with her Bachelor of Science in Earth Science Education. This past year, she completed a year-long student teaching internship at Manheim Township Middle School through the Millersville Professional Development School Program where she taught earth science topics such as the water cycle, atmosphere, meteorology, oceanography, astronomy, chemistry, and geology. Shauna also implemented a month long project concerning Natural Disaster Preparedness with her students. This project included students gathering data and research about natural disasters, creating a disaster preparedness kit, and writing a letter to their family about the importance of a family disaster plan. As an undergraduate, Shauna was part of the American Meteorological Society, Ocean Science Club and many other organizations on campus. She was President of The National Panhellenic Council (NPC) and was Programs Vice President for the national sorority Alpha Xi Delta. Shauna also attended many science department seminars. Through those events, organizations, work experience and the continuous support of her advisor, Dr. Yalda, she developed a strong background in leadership and education, which sparked an interest in Emergency Management.
Currently, Shauna is employed by Millersville University as an information desk and event staff employee. Through her employment, Shauna collaborates with many organizations including MUPD, Facilities Operations, Housing Operations, Athletics, and Student Services. Shauna will also be serving as the Graduate Assistant in the CDRE for the 2013-2014 academic year. She will be involved in planning the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training at Millersville University and will serve as the President of the Millersville Chapter of the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) for the 2013-2014 academic year.
