Power Outage

Power is coming back to much of campus, however, Internet and Outlook service is spotty.  PPL and Millersville University are working on the problem. Dining services reports Upper Deck has Continental style meals and North Side Bistro and Cove have full service. Marauder Express has breakfast sandwiches outside Gordinier.

Analysis of Pharmaceutical Products Using HPLC

Student Researcher: Huyen T Dao-Kendig
Faculty Advisor: Dr. Jeremiah K.N. Mbindyo

There is great concern about the health effects of pharmaceutical products in water. This includes non metabolized drugs and their pharmacologically active metabolites. These compounds are also biomarkers of water pollution. The goal of the project is to investigate pharmaceutical products and their metabolites in waste water using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).

Development of a Spectrophotometric Method for Determination of Chemical Oxygen Demand

Student Researcher: Christine Kutz
Faculty Advisor: Dr. Jeremiah K.N. Mbindyo

This study will investigate the use of UV-visible spectroscopy to determine chemical oxygen demand (COD). Determination of COD is a faster method of estimating biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), an important parameter in assessing water quality. A spectrophotometric method for determination of COD will be developed. Results of the research will be integrated into a classroom experiment which reinforces multiple significant concepts in environmental and analytical chemistry.
