Diane Zimmerman Umble (M.A., University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill; M.A., University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill; Ph.D., University of Pennsylvania) is professor of communication at Millersville University. Her published work includes Holding the Line: The Telephone in Old Order Mennonite and Amish Life (Johns Hopkins University Press, 1996), a co-edited collection, Strangers at Home: Amish and Mennonite Women in History (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2002), a co-edited collection, The Amish and the Media (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2008) and articles and chapters on telephone history, women’s history and media criticism.
