Effective Mentoring
Effective Mentoring

The act of mentoring is different than teaching. The purpose of this workshop is to provide established, successful teachers time to explore the role of being a mentor to student and beginning teachers. As important as the undergraduate coursework is, perhaps the most significant experience for those entering the profession is the student teaching experience and the first year with their own classroom. We will develop strategies to help young teachers and learn some practical techniques to help you avoid difficult situations that sometimes arise in mentoring.
The course requirements will consist of readings, video observations of student teachers, brief reflections, and legal updates regarding all current issues in education. This is primarily an online course with two face-to-face meetings to start and finish the workshop.
Registration: EDW 732.50 Register online via MAX until Jan. 8
After 1/8/09 register via Graduate & Professional Studies at profdev@millersville.edu or 872-3030.
The workshop consists of two Monday sessions from 4:00 - 6:00 pm on Febuary 2nd and 16th. These sessions start and finish the two-week online course. Participants have the advantage to make connections with fellow students before the online workshop begins which will help facilitate the online discussions. There are no required times for participants to be online and work may be completed at the participant’s own pace over the two weeks between the two Monday classroom sessions. No textbook required. Participants will earn 3 graduate credits.
Note: you must be admitted as a non-degree student if you have not taken an MU course or workshop in the past 5 years.
