PANEL: October 14, 2016 at 10 a.m.

Multipurpose Room, Stayer Hall

"The Ethos of Care: Where Good Intentions and Perceptions of Misconduct Intersect"

Teachers make hundreds, if not thousands, of non-trivial daily decisions that directly impact their students.  How can a singular decision, one that is seemingly rooted in good intent, result in the loss of professional credibility, or perhaps even employment or licensure sanctions?  In this panel discussion, teachers, school administrators, and teacher licensing officials will share their perspectives on authentic case studies involving allegations of misconduct levied against successful teachers.  From their differing roles, panelists will discuss the events that led to the misconduct investigations, systemic expectations and contributors, and possible prevention strategies.

The panel is free and open to the public.

Dr. Troy Hutchings

Dr. Troy Hutchings, Senior Strategic Advisor for Educational Testing Service, researches, writes, speaks and develops materials on a national level in the areas of teacher sexual misconduct with students, educator decision-making, and the professional continuum of responsibility associated with a framework for an ethical and legal teaching practice.
