My internship at the National Aquarium in Baltimore, MD will help me confirm the career choice I have chosen to pursue while giving me the experience and contact references necessary to remain competitive for the full-time positions I apply for. It will expand on the academic knowledge I have gained through my coursework at Millersville and will apply it through hands-on work experience. The National Aquarium’s mission is to inspire conservation of the world’s aquatic treasures, and this has grown to be a personal goal of mine. I play my part in fulfilling this mission by caring for a portion of the organisms kept by the National Aquarium, specifically the gallery that holds a giant pacific Octopus, sturgeons, seahorses, anemones, a mantis shrimp, and many other fresh and saltwater organisms. I keep the systems clean by performing necessary water changes and I feed the animals a healthy diet. All maintenance tasks are recorded in a log sheet and any abnormal behaviors and/or feeding patterns are listed in the comments section. Anything of concern is reported to the animal health staff for further action. I am thankful for this opportunity and all that it will bring to my future in this field.
