Susquehanna Bank Summer Nonprofit Internship Award

My internship is at the Literacy Council of Lancaster-Lebanon in Downtown Lancaster.  The Literacy Council helps immigrants and refugees learn how to speak and read English so they can better adjust to their new surroundings.  I've been working there and absolutely love it!!  The students are so engaging.  The come from all over the world and they all have such amazing stories to share.  All have come to the United States for different reasons, but most searching for a better life for themselves and their families.  The one leveling agent in my classroom is the need and desire to speak English.  I have taught classes ranging from 7 to 30 students at a time.  It is very challenging but rewarding work.  This internship relates to my career goals directly because I have truly fallen in love with this place and teaching.  I could absolutely see myself working here, or someplace similar after graduation.  I've found a niche here teaching adults.  By completing this internship I hope to gain valuable experience that will help me get a job after graduation.
