Susquehanna Bank Summer Nonprofit Internship Award

Jesse Manzi

"My summer internship is a joint project between the Lancaster Inter-Municipal Committee (LIMC) and Millersville Universtiy to map outfall locations of storm water runoff into streams and determine the water quality. This project is helping me earn my degree B.A. in environmental geography and relates principles used in classes such as Environmental Policy, GIS, and Map Interpretation and Analysis. My responsibilities as a field team leader involve using base maps created in lab to navigate streams and locate outfalls that will be tracked using a GPS and collect information regarding outfall types while collecting water quality samples for each location to be brought back and analyzed by a mapping team and water analyst respectively. The combination of field research and Geographic Information Systems mapping procedures relate directly to my future goals in a career using GIS in the fields of geography and meteorology."
