Description

Functions

  1. Review and formulate policy regarding intercollegiate athletics consistent with the educational philosophy of the University.

  2. Review policy and recommend the adoption of new policies when warranted. New policies and policy changes recommended by the committee are reported regularly by the chairperson and are subject to review by the Faculty Senate and the Student Senate.

  3. Monitor compliance with the policies of the PSAC, ECAC, and NCAA.

  4. Monitor budgets for intercollegiate sports.

  5. Approve policies for the distribution of all athletic awards based upon the recommendation of the Athletic Director.

  6. Facilitate selection of faculty representatives for search committees, as the need arises.

Membership

Current Committee Members

Membership

  1. Chairperson: The Chairperson is a Faculty Senator who has no assigned responsibilities in the athletic program.

    1. Election: Elected by Faculty Senate.

    2. Term: Three-year term beginning and ending at the start of the fall semester of the appropriate year.

    3. Limits: No more than two complete, consecutive terms may be served. Service of at-large or partial terms do not count towards the term limit. If the Chairperson does not retain Senate membership, another senator should be elected to complete the remainder of the term.

  2. Faculty Representatives: Three members who have no assigned responsibilities in the athletic program.

    1. Election: Elected by Faculty Senate.

    2. Term: Overlapping three-year terms beginning and ending at the start of the fall semester of the appropriate year.

  3. Coaching Representatives: Two members from the coaching staff.

    1. Election: Elected by the coaching staff, one by the women coaches and one by the men coaches.

    2. Term: Overlapping two-year terms beginning and ending at the start of the fall semester of the appropriate year.

  4. Student Representatives: Three undergraduate student representatives.

    1. Election: Elected by Student Senate.

    2. Term: Overlapping two-year terms beginning and ending at the start of the fall semester of the appropriate year.

  5. Ex Officio Members: Athletic Director, faculty representative to the NCAA and Sports Information Director.

    1. Voting: Ex Officio members are non-voting members.

  6. Administrative Representatives: Two non-coaching members of the administrative staff.

    1. Appointment: Appointed by the University President.

    2. Term: Overlapping two-year terms beginning and ending at the start of the fall semester of the appropriate year.
