Description

Functions

  1. Promote understanding of the purpose of General Education, consistent with the MU mission and the specific learning needs of MU students.

  2. Regularly and throughout the semester, in consultation with appropriate stakeholders, review, evaluate, and recommend changes, adjustments, and updates to the General Education Program, aiming to enhance the Program academically and philosophically and to align the Program with changing needs of students and the academic environment; report to the Faculty Senate.

  3. Proactively initiate, review, and evaluate proposed changes to the General Education Program and submit recommendations to Faculty Senate.

  4. Support the implementation of the General Education Program.

  5. Stay abreast of national issues and trends in general education and evaluate their relevancy to the General Education Program at Millersville University. Share findings with Faculty Senate and recommend action.

Current Committee Members

Membership

  1. Chairperson: The Chairperson is a Faculty Senator.

    1. Election: Elected by Faculty Senate.

    2. Term: Three-year term beginning and ending at the start of the fall semester in the appropriate year.

    3. Limits: No more than two complete, consecutive terms may be served. Service of at-large or partial terms do not count towards the term limit. If the Chairperson does not retain Senate membership, another senator should be elected to complete the remainder of the term.

  2. Faculty Representatives: Two members from each of the four academic units (Education, Humanities, Science and Mathematics, Social Sciences) and one non- school member.

    1. Election: Elected on a staggered schedule by Faculty Senate.

    2. Term: Two-year terms beginning and ending at the start of the fall semester of the appropriate year.

    3. Limits: No two members may be elected from the same department. No more than two complete, consecutive terms may be served. Service of at- large or partial terms do not count towards the term limit.

  3. Student Representatives: Two undergraduate student representatives.

    1. Election: Elected by Undergraduate Student Senate.

    2. Term: One-year terms beginning and ending at the start of the fall semester of the appropriate year.

    3. Limits: As determined by the Undergraduate Student Senate.

  4. Ex Officio Members: Provost and vice president for academic affairs, General Education Coordinator, First-Year Experience Coordinator.

    1. Designees: One designee may serve in lieu of each Ex Officio member.

    2. Voting: Ex Officio members/designees are non-voting members.
