A valid assessment of the program is vital. Seminar instructors are asked to build the completion of the end-of-semester survey into their course, as well as using open-ended writing prompts and submitting samples of student writings to help assess information literacy. In addition, students are selected to participate in focus groups and we have, as an institution, sought to examine the differences between the way in which participants in the FYE program respond to questions on the NSSE and CLA versus responses from students who have not participated in the FYE program.
