Why did you choose to make a gift to Millersville?

I believe that giving back is important. I try to support organizations that I identify with, groups where I can see what my money supports. I was very fortunate not to need to pay my way through Millersville. I had the financial support of my family, but many of my friends were paying their own way. I know how hard that is and I want to make it easier for someone if I can. In my professional life, I have worked with many people who are trying to work and complete school. I want to take some of that burden away if I can.

Please share some highlights of your experiences at Millersville as a student.

I had a very traditional college experience. I lived in the dorms my first two years on campus. I was a member of several organizations and clubs and I have great memories of campus events. The best part of my Millersville experience has been the people I have met. The friendships I made on campus have been a big part of my life since and I am still meeting wonderful members of the MU community today.

As a younger alumna, what made you decide to give back now?

I was the co-chair of my senior class gift committee in '94. I have tried to give what I can since. At first my gifts were very small, really just a few dollars, and I sometimes wondered if they were worth it. Now, as a member of the Millersville University Foundation Board I see how many "small" gifts add up to make a real difference to Millersville students. I give what I can, and that may vary year by year, but I always know that whatever I can give is appreciated and that makes me want to keep giving.

What made you decide to split your gift to benefit multiple areas on campus?

Honestly, it was hard to pick just one area to support. I love that I can direct my gift, and I always try to leave at least a portion undirected. By giving to the areas that I want to support and to the Annual Fund which goes to areas the University needs most, I can affect the greatest number of people.
