Pamplona Now! A Millersville University course at the Universidad Pública de Navarra in Pamplona, Spain
This course will explore many topics that make-up modern-day Navarra. Among the topics to be discussed are: the educational system in Spain, Spanish contemporary art, the Euskera (the language of the region), the linguistic diversity of Spain, The Way of Saint James (the pilgrimage route to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela). Students will enjoy several workshops on the food, music and dance of Navarra. Prof. Rivera-Hernández will accompany the students and offer instruction on site. Guest speakers from the Universidad Pública de Navarra will offer special classes on local topics and themes.
The course can count at the graduate level as Span 525: Advanced Oral Practice and Self-Expression OR Span 589: Current Topics.
At the undergraduate level it counts as Span 362: Oral Spanish II OR Span 491: Current Topics.
**Prerequisite for the course: Proficiency above the Span 202 level either by having taken the course at MU or placement exam.
Cost: program fee + roundtrip airfare from USA to Spain + MU tuition + ISIC card
Program fee: $2500. Students must send a $100.00 non refundable fee with the application form which is due on Wednesday, June 27. The remaining balance of $2400. is due on Friday, July 6. All checks must be made payable to Millersville University and sent directly to the Department of Foreign Languages, ATTN: Spanish Summer Travel Course, McComsey Hall, Millersville University, Millersville, PA 17551. DO NOT send checks to Dr. Rivera-Hernández.
The program fee includes all this:
- Round-trip transportation from airport to Pamplona.
- Home stays with Spanish families
- Most meals
- Transportation to all excursions
The program fee does not include:
- three credit Millersville tuition fee
- air fare
- ISIC card -An international ID insurance card which is required by the state of Pennsylvania and Millersville University. It costs between $30.00 and $85.00 depending on the level of the coverage selected.
In addition to the contact hours in Pamplona, the students will meet with Professor Rivera-Hernández several times in July before departing and after returning in August when they will turn in their course project.
The tickets for the airfare will be purchased by each individual, but the reservations will be made for the entire group. More details about the cost and when you have to purchase the tickets will be given at a later time.

If you do not have a passport, you must apply for one immediately. Keep in mind that it takes 4 - 6 weeks to receive a passport.
