ACTFL
WPT/OPI(c)
The ACTFL Writing Proficiency Test (WPT) is a test that measures how well you write in a language by comparing your performance with the criteria described in the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines - Writing (Revised 2001). The WPT is a timed test. The test taker is given 90 minutes (booklet) or 80 minutes (internet) to complete the four major test prompts.
The ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) is a test that measures how well you speak a language by comparing your performance with the criteria described in the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines - Speaking (Revised 1999). It is a one-on-one telephonic conversation with a real person conducted entirely in the target language. Through a conversational format, you will be asked to talk about yourself, your interests, your daily routine, etc.
The ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview by Computer (OPIc) is conducted in a similar format as the OPI but without a live person. Pre-recorded prompts are played to the examinee, and they will have a set amount of time to record their response to each prompt.
Test Reservation and Registration
1. Reserve your test dates/times at the MU Test Center at least 2 weeks in advance of your desired test dates. Please call in at (717) 872-3710 for reservation of your OPI(c) before you register using our online form. For the WPT, choose one of the scheduled dates listed on the right. 2. Submit a separate online OPI(c)/WPT TEST RESERVATION/REGISTRATION FORM, for each test session with a first and second choice of date and time. A non-refundable Reservation/Registration fee is required ($154/OPI; $85/OPIc; $95/WPT; ). Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or electronic check accepted. If you are re-taking a WPT, the test will automatically be paper-based, and an additional shipping fee of $17.39 (CASH ONLY) is required on the day of your test.
3. Upon receipt of the complete Reservation/Registration Form, the Test Center will confirm your appointments via email. Your WPT and/or OPIc is considered confirmed at this point.
4. Usually within one week of your OPI, Language Testing International will set the specific date and time for your OPI, and the Test Center will notify you via email.
