Media Literacy Institute: Digital Citizenship to Support Learning

Drawing from expertise in video games, social media, apps, film, and television, faculty will demonstrate strategies to teach students how to find, evaluate, and communicate information. Participants will learn strategies to integrate these media texts in classes as they engage students in curating information and developing positive digital footprints. This active institute equips teachers with the skills to teach critical engagement of digital tools to support digital citizenship and learning.

Dr. Nicole Pfannenstiel

Dr. A Nicole Pfannenstiel is a digital rhetoric scholar and Assistant Professor of English/Digital Media at Millersville University. Most of my work focuses on learning through and with technology, blending rhetorical theory, digital rhetoric and multimedia learning theory. She is currently writing about the use of Twitter in freshman and junior-level composition courses. Additionally, she is working on projects exploring learning through videogames and makerspaces. She explores these approaches to learning and the implications for learning in the composition classroom.


2018 Schedule

Credits: All participants will receive 3 graduate credits for the summer institute. 

Tuition/Fees: Institutes are unique 3 credit graduate courses, that highlight renowned experts in the field. Institutes include breakfast and lunch throughout the day, as well as handouts and materials. Books may be required courses, please check with the university bookstore. Millersville University graduate tuition and fees can be found on the Office of Student Accounts page. In addition, a $165 institute fee is required.
