General Information
Community service (volunteering) and service-learning are great ways to get out into the community. By working with community organizations, leaders, volunteers and participants you'll enhance your classroom learning with experiences that expand your boundaries and challenge your assumptions about the world around you. You can develop career-related skills, or use abilities and interests that may not relate to your major. You may even discover new talents! All while making the community and the world a better place.

The After School Corps (ASC) is a program where students from Millersville University are equipped with tools to become tutors for elementary, middle, and high school students. The program currently operates in King Elementary and the McCaskey High School campus in the School District of Lancaster. After School tutors are trained in problem-solving, effective studying, cultural competency, and critical thinking during the orientation for the program and strive to transfer these skills to tutees through their tutoring experiences. ASC tutors are responsible for providing personalized tutoring support as well as instruction in an individualized capacity or in small groups. ASC tutors assist tutees in improving deficits and overall academic achievement. ASC tutoring takes place Monday–Thursday from 3:15-5:30 and may occur based on your own schedule and availability. Also, please let us know if you require transportation. For additional information, contact Volunteer.Central@millersville.edu
Special Requests come in to our office all the time—organizations who are proactively looking for MU student volunteers. Often they have special projects they need help with, or they are looking for skills that they know our students are likely to have.
Contact us directly for even more opportunities, advice, or for help connecting to an organization or interest with which you would like to volunteer.
