Service-Learning Information and Resources for Faculty

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.” -Margaret Mead

We are here to support you, the faculty member, in designing and implementing service-learning courses and pedagogies. Our staff is knowledgeable in service-learning practices and resources, and we maintain a continually expanding list of service sites in the community.

The Volunteer Central office offers faculty members assistance with logistics, opportunities for recognition, and a community of educators dedicated to civic engagement.

We also offer periodic professional development opportunities on campus for faculty with an interest in service-learning. We bring in national and regional leaders in the field. We can connect you with your Millersville colleagues who have had success with service-learning and who use community-based research to support their scholarship.

We Have a Form That Will Help us to Help You

For Further Information. . .

Come meet with us to discuss implementing service-learning in your curriculum, including the development of community service placements appropriate to the academic goals and objectives of your course.  We maintain a library of books, journals, toolkits, workbooks, texts, and other materials on all aspects of service-learning.  These texts are incredible resources, expecially for the faculty member looking to create a service-learning course.  There are resources to assist you in developing a syllabus that integrates service-learning, as well as samples of syllabi from service-learning courses in many disciplines.

Community-Based Research
Information on CBR, which is a model of service-learning that involves students and faculty working with a community organization or a community itself on a research project serving the community’s needs. CBR is a great way to get students excited about research as well as pursuing your own scholarship.
