Mission

Mission

As Information Technology continually seeks ways to better serve the technology needs of Millersville's community, we strive to evolve and adapt our organization to changing technologies and user expectations.

On January 1, 1999, Information Technology implemented a new organizational structure. This new structure functionally merges and recombines the former areas of Academic Computing Services and Computing & Information Technologies and establishes four departments: Academic, Consulting & Technical Services; Web & Multimedia Services; Communication & Network Services; and Administrative Information Services. The new organization will be more effective, responsive, and customer-focused.

Enhancements include: assigning all microcomputer support consultants to a single department to improve performance and facilitate cross-training; creating a new department to upgrade technical support to faculty for instruction and research projects; refocusing resources on Web-based applications to take advantage of emerging capabilities for Internet, intranet, instruction, e-commerce and administrative processes; centralizing support for voice, data and video network services; and redistributing staff resources to respond to the 1997 Information Technology Task Force Report.

The Vice President for Information Technology provides leadership for the continued development of a modern technology environment. The Vice President ensures that the technology resources of the University are applied effectively and efficiently to support the institutional mission and strategic vision. Information Technology and its leaders are primary advocates within the University for the contributions information technology should make toward quality, access and cost effectiveness in teaching and learning, research and discovery, outreach and service, and administrative and business processes.

Planning is a key component for achieving our goals. The current multi-year planning horizon is described in Information Technology Strategic Objectives - 2005-2009. The Vice President continues to consult with the campus community to implement these objectives and continually reassess the planning strategies for the future.

Continuous improvement of technology support services is fundamental for the University and user satisfaction is our primary objective. To accomplish our mission, each department within Information Technology seeks and pursues opportunities to collaborate with others to optimize benefits and eliminate unnecessary costs, to add value to every process it provides, manages, or supports, and to maintain accountability to its customers.

Information Technology and the campus technology environment remain "works in progress." Our organization will continue to evolve as technologies emerge and change and as user needs and expectations become more complex.
