Pre-Scholars Summer Institute
Successful completion of the summer program, known as the Pre-Scholars Summer Institute, is a precondition for fall admission. The focus of the summer program is on the holistic development of the student with the goal of anchoring within the student a set of core values that are consistent with scholarship. The program is highly structured and demanding. Students are required to participate in every aspect of the program; the day begins at 7 am and ends at midnight with a mandatory “lights out”. Student behaviors that are inconsistent with program expectations are corrected immediately with the assistance of a team of peer staff who are with the students throughout the day.
In keeping with student development theory, the summer program has three main components: academic, interpersonal, and residential. Activities are carefully constructed throughout the program in order to address these critical components.
