Winter Visual & Performing Arts Center
Innovation. Engagement. Creativity. Three very distinct words but each inhabits the spirit of the new Winter Visual and Performing Arts Center. A space that houses both performance and classroom. Teacher and student. Campus and community. Technological and natural. Structure and free form. Through the arts, we learn about the complexity and interconnected world we live in. Students who gain insight and understanding by asking important questions, putting forth a thesis, researching, mining data and sharing the findings, are experiencing an artistic process and therefore, in essence, are artists—regardless of their chosen track. This building is a place for all artists to belong and interact with students who have dedicated their learning to the arts explicitly.
This building was created to bring the arts together and to share the best in local, regional and national performing artists with the greater Lancaster area. Visiting artists interact with students through masterclasses, workshops and long-term residencies to support the learning they are receiving from our professional artist faculty. Millersville University is a distinct place for such an engaging endeavor because of the deep value and commitment to the arts, the value of service to community and the value of diversity.
