The Department of Music is committed to excellence in music teaching and learning processes for all students of Millersville University, and contributes to the University's mission of providing a liberal education with emphasis on cultural values by offering special course work in the arts and humanities.

The mission of the Millersville University Department of Music is to be a vibrant, artistic community that fosters excellence in performance, education and entrepreneurship. Grounded in a strong liberal arts education, the Department of Music aims at developing the whole person while preparing students to lead productive lives as professionals. The Department of Music provides opportunities for developing personal, social, and cultural skills essential to the development of educated and productive persons.

Serving as a resource and participating in the University's mission as a teaching institution, the Millersville University Department of Music offers a range of Bachelors Degrees, general education courses, and performance opportunities built upon the expertise of the faculty while meeting the regional needs of the Commonwealth.
           
Specifically, the Department of Music offers thorough preparation for careers in music, music education, and music business. In addition, it provides opportunities for all University students to develop musical skills and cultural understanding. The department also serves as an outstanding cultural resource for the University and region. The department demonstrates a unique focus and competence in integrating musicianship training into all aspects of its curriculum.
The Department of Music seeks to prepare its students to live in an increasingly multicultural and technologically complex society. The department accomplishes this by offering a curriculum that encompasses music of the world and by integrating the appropriate use of technology into our classrooms and studios.

The Department of Music willingly accepts its responsibility to provide opportunities for solo performance, ensemble performance, research, and collaborative scholarship between faculty and all students, as well as embraces its responsibility to serve the University and regional communities as a cultural resource.
