The Celestial Brass Quintet

09-10-2009

From June 1 through 6, 2009, six students from Millersville University's Department of Music studied and performed at the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. The students, five of whom are members of "The Celestial Brass Quintet", had the opportunity to work with some of the best brass players in the world, including members of the Rodney Mack Philadelphia Big Brass, and renowned trumpeter and jazz musician Wynton Marsalis.

Five student brass quintets were selected for participation in the Rodney Mack Philadelphia Big Brass Seminar at Curtis. MU students who participated are John Maurer, trumpet; Devin Doherty, trumpet; Dan Stauffer, trumpet (Mu alum); Tommy Rieger, French horn; Nate Petley, trombone; and Dan Meeker, tuba. The Celestial Brass Quintet is coached by MU faculty member, Matthew K. Brown, who was also on faculty at the Curtis seminar, and is a member of the Philadelphia Big Brass.
