The Music Business & Technologies (MB&T) program prepares students for positions within the Arts Administration and Music Industry fields. Preparation for those students entering the Music Industry field requires them to become well versed in the fundamentals of sound recording and engineering. With that in mind, a grant proposal was co-written by 2 MB&T students to fund the creation of a cutting-edge digital recording studio for the Music Department, establishing the Computerized Recording Instructional Studio (CRIS); conveniently located in Lyte Auditorium.

The CRIS serves as a resource for all Millersville University music students by providing high-quality digital recordings for competitions and graduate applications, as well as providing students with digital recordings for their online portfolios. These online portfolios (developed by Dr. Micheal Houlahan) serve as an electronic dossier and include sample recordings and written work, electronic resumes, teaching demonstrations, and documentation of successful cooperative and student teaching experiences.

The CRIS is a top-of-the-line ProTools-based digital recording system using a ProTools 8 HD system. The studio offers Avalon Preamps, top of the line microphones by Neumann, Royer, Sure, and the capability to record 36 channels simultaneously. The CRIS is incorporated into classes, such as Electronic Music, Advanced Recording, and Music Business for the Popular Musician, allowing students to write, perform, and listen to profession quality recordings they and their colleagues have created.

The studio is available to students, faculty, and staff  of Millersville University for recordings on a submission approval basis.  Outside groups may use the facilities for $30 an hour which includes a student recording technician, and facilities.  For more information or questions, please contact Dr. Jennifer Jester at jennifer.jester@millersville.edu.
