Marching Band’s Newest Addition

Dr. John Zarco was appointed as director of the marching band at Millersville University for the 2012 season.
Zarco comes from the University of Minnesota, where he studied wind conducting and served as a graduate instructor within the School of Music. Zarco earned his bachelor’s degree in music education and a master’s of music at California State University, Sacramento.
“I was in the marching band in high school and for a few years in college. Although I had played music before, that activity is what got me really excited about music. I love the sonic and visual impact of great marching bands; there is something special about it when it all comes together,” said Zarco.
Zarco has over 12 years of instructional experience with marching ensembles. Zarco previously taught at Saratoga High School in Saratoga, Calif., where he oversaw the marching band, conducted two symphonic bands, two jazz bands and a percussion class.
“One of the things that really impressed me about Millersville was the quality of the interactions I had with the people here. There is also a great deal of support and growth within the music department. This is evidenced partly by the unique venues and programs currently available at Millersville, in addition to the brand new Winter Center opening this fall. It feels like an exciting time to be a part of Millersville University,” said Zarco.
