Reorganization

November 20, 2009

Earlier this month Dr. Vilas Prabhu, provost, announced a reorganization within Academic Affairs to attain further efficiencies in administrative structure.  Dr. W. Douglas Zander has been named associate provost for enrollment management, which is in addition to his current duties as director of admissions.  Minor (Will) Redmond has been named assistant vice president for academic services.  He will continue to serve as the director of the Lancaster Partnership Program.  And, Dr. Melvin Allen has been named interim executive director of the Civic and Community Engagement and Research Project (CCERP).

"We anticipate that our unified approach to enrollment management, in collaboration with Student Affairs, will further improve recruitment and retention of students, support services for academic and student life, and ultimately their academic success," explained Prabhu.  "This restructuring has been accomplished by consolidating and reassigning existing positions. No new positions were added to the administrative complement."

In his new role, Zander will oversee the enrollment management unit, consisting of admissions, the Registrar's Office and academic services.  His responsibilities include leading the development, implementation and evaluation of a strategic enrollment plan for the University.  Zander serves as the provost's chief deputy in matters relating to recruitment, retention and graduation of all student populations.

Redmond will oversee academic services, which includes the Department of Academic and Student Development, the Office of Learning Services, the AIM for Success/Act 101 Program and the Lancaster Partnership Program.

As interim executive director of CCERP, Allen provides vision, leadership, advocacy and direction for the programs, policies and personnel of CCERP, which is charged with bringing focus and coordination to University-wide civic and community engagement efforts and fostering a university culture committed to civic and  community engagement.  He oversees the Office of Internships and Civic Engagement Services, and is responsible for the Walker Center for Civic Responsibility and Leadership, the Center for Public Policy, and the Center for Public Scholarship.  Allen will play a lead role in raising external funds for CCERP, as well as creating partnerships and serving as a liaison to non-profit organizations, federal, state and local government agencies, businesses and other regional community entities.
