Millersville University is hosting a Reflect & Connect Series on the second Wednesday of every month through December. The series is a sequence of gatherings where community members-faculty, staff, students and residents in the larger community-read short pieces of literature on service, reflect on civic engagement and connect with the community.
"The goal of the Reflect & Connect Series is to bring the University and Millersville community together to think consciously about volunteerism and civic engagement, and to put the ideas and reflections into action by connecting with the community," stated Dr. Kerrie Farkas, assistant professor in the English department and director of the Center for Public Scholarship, which oversees the Reflect & Connect Series.
Participants must register prior to each session in order to obtain readings from the Huntington House or through links on Facebook. The sessions will focus on associating, serving, leading and connecting.
Sessions run 5 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. and will be held in the Ford Atrium, McComsey Hall. Oct. 14 features "What We Don't Talk About When We Talk About Service." The topic for Nov. 11 is leading and the reading will be "The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas" by Ursula K. Le Guin. The Dec. 9 session will focus on "Connecting with Community."
Free and open to the public, participants are welcome to join individual sessions or attend all sessions. For more information or to register, contact Lori Leaman at Lori.Leaman@Millersville.edu, stop by the Huntington House at 8 South George Street or visit Millersville's website at www.millersville.edu.
