MILLERSVILLE ENHANCES REU PROGRAM BY ADDING COORDINATOR

Millersville University recently hired Donna Randolph as the first coordinator of the School of Science’s “Research Experience for Undergraduates” (REU) program. Randolph is the first coordinator to assist in the planning of the intensive 10-week program with hopes to improve upon and offer students the finest REU program possible.

Randolph’s role includes recruiting students, assessing and creating activities, coordinating applications and assisting with enhancing overall youth development and leadership. She hopes to introduce the REU trainees to leading experts and researchers, offer them the opportunity to attend leadership conferences, visit local outlets, restaurants and factory tours within the community.

A nontraditional student, Randolph is currently in the master of educational leadership program at Millersville. Her bachelor’s is from Cheyney and she also received a master’s in special education at Antioch University of Pennsylvania.

The REU program supports the active research participation of undergraduate students across the country, in any of the areas of research funded by the National Science Foundation. Undergraduates from all different backgrounds, majors and states will be able to participate.

This summer, Millersville’s REU program will offer eight or nine undergraduate students from across the country the opportunity to participate in a 10-week long watershed research program from mid-May to the end of July.

“I hope to reach students of color, minorities and youth of all backgrounds. And contribute to the REU Program to make this a very successful additional year and most importantly - give the program a little flare!” Randolph said.
