A Language and Culture Studies degree from Millersville University will prepare you to live and work in an increasingly diverse, multicultural, multilingual and technologically complex society. The in-depth study of language allows students to understand the world better, identify commonalities and respect cultural differences. By focusing your study in German, Spanish or French, you will be well equipped to enter a variety of fields or to continue your education through professional or graduate school. 

The faculty members in the English and World Languages Department are native or near-native speakers of the languages they teach and have a variety of subject interests. Many have published works and are currently conducting research, which students have the opportunity to collaborate on.

You can pursue a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Language and Culture Studies with an option in Language Studies, Culture Studies, or Teacher Education, specializing in French, German or Spanish through the Language and Culture Studies department.

What Will You Learn?

The English and World Languages Department at Millersville University offers a rich language and culture curriculum. Students graduating from the program will be able to use the language of their major at an advanced proficiency level, communicate successfully in a multicultural environment and demonstrate awareness of historical and political realities of diverse countries, regions and ethnic groups. The undergraduate degree encompasses the liberal arts and is designed to allow students to complete a minor or second major in another discipline within four years.

The English and World Languages Department encourages all students with a major or minor in French, German or Spanish to study abroad for a summer, a semester or an academic year in a country where their language is spoken. Millersville has partner universities in France, Germany, Spain and Chile, but students can also participate in other programs.
