Additional Information

Matthew Lewis is a senior physics major at Millersville University.  He chose to attend Millersville because of their wide array of programs, care for success, and the professor/student relationship.  Choosing physics as a major came easy for Matthew.  While in high school, he took his first class and from there he was fascinated by the power physics had in the world.  Matthew then decided he wanted to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in physics at Millersville.

The best aspect of his program is studying physics and being able to conduct research with the professors.  Matthew proclaims that it only makes learning more fun when the professors are extremely passionate about their work. Millersville’s program offers students a strong background to prepare them for their future in the field.  Matthew’s favorite class was optics, which allowed him to use the school’s many labs to apply his skills.  This in return has inspired him to choose optics and photonics as his concentration.  Along with on-campus experiences, he had the opportunity to intern at the University of Maryland.

Matthew is also a winner of an S-STEM scholarship, funded by the National Science Foundation, and has been able to present his research at the University’s Student Research Symposium.  Adapting to life at Millersville has been easy for him, and he credits the physics program for his future plans.  After graduation, Matthew plans on attending graduate school to pursue a PhD in Materials Science, with a concentration on optics and photonics.  His finals words to prospective students to Millersville are, “Aim high. Take advantage of all the opportunities that are presented to you. With hard work, nothing is impossible.”
